There has always been a debate going on around America whether to use plastic pallet containers or opt to utilize those made of wood instead. Though both are very useful, only one of them, plastic pallets, proves to be more utilitarian and efficient in the long run. At first glance, people find wooden crates and pallets to offer more benefits to the users and the environment, centering their argument to the fact that wood is safe to use and biodegradable.

When you look at this fact more closely, the biodegradable characteristic of the wood is not enough. For one, a huge demand for wooden crates and pallets would mean more and more trees have to be cut down just to fulfill the demand of consumers; and second, biodegradable materials like wood, do not really degrade at a fast rate, leaving our landfills overflowing more than its intended capacity; and lastly, wooden pallets don’t make good recyclable materials. Since they are mostly used to transport organic food and animals, they become breeding ground for bacteria and virus when used more than once. It’s hard to sanitize and clean them too. The only option left is for them to be discarded only after being used once, and that would be like saying goodbye to trees just like that. Obviously, this is not being cost effective at all.

The Truth about Plastic

When the plastic pallet container industry was born, it actually brought blessings to the trees, or sadly, what’s left of our forests. Demand for wooden crates has tremendously decreased which means, demand for cutting trees have also decreased. Furthermore, all those downside of using wooden crates before have become the strength of plastic pallet containers. Plastic pallet containers are durable and strong, and can last for a lifetime; They need not be thrown to the landfills because they can be recycled for other more useful purposes like in construction of houses for instance; They are easily sanitized and cleaned, therefore providing more venues for use to the consumers.

Overall, plastic pallet containers prove to be more efficient and cost-effective in the long run. This is why it’s no wonder why the boom of plastic greatly increased in just a short period of twelve years. They are not only helpful to consumers, but beneficial to the environment as well.
